Biographical Sketch

Dr. Josué Cardoso dos Santos has recently joined the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) as assistant professor after spending a period as visiting researcher at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) and completing a JSPS postdoctoral fellowship program at the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (ISAS/JAXA). 

He holds PhD and master’s degrees in Physics (concentration areas: Celestial Mechanics / Astrodynamics / Dynamical Astronomy) from São Paulo State University (UNESP) at Guaratinguetá, where he also obtained a degree in Mathematics (with honors). During his PhD he was a visiting researcher at the University of Colorado Boulder (USA) and at ISAS/JAXA. He was also a postdoctoral researcher/research associate at the Technion (Israel), ITA and INPE (Brazil). 

He has published about 40 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences throughout his career and received awards from prestigious space organizations such as AIAA, American Astronautical Society, COSPAR, SGAC and SIMCA. He has experience working with the teams of the Japanese space missions DESTINY+ (to visit the asteroid 3200 Phaeton) and MMX (to visit the Martian moons and bring samples from Phobos back to the Earth), being also a member of the MMX’s Geodesy Science Strategy Team (GSST).
