Admission Requirements and Application
To apply for admission to MAE graduate programs, please submit an application through the Admissions Office.
Admission Requirements: Master of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering*
- Bachelor of Science in engineering, applied mathematics or physics from an accredited institution with an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Successful completion of the following courses: Dynamics, Strength of Materials, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra / Engineering Mathematics.
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are required for all students except those that have a B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering from an ABET accredited program with a GPA greater than 3.25.
- Minimum TOEFL score of 80 or minimum IELTS score of 6.5
(International applicants only)
Admission Requirements: Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering*
- Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or closely related field with a GPA of 3.3/4.0 on all previous college work. BS students must also satisfy all admission requirements for the Master of Science.
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores are not required except in the following cases:
- Failure to meet the GPA requirement
- Previous degree not from an ABET-accredited undergraduate program in mechanical or aerospace engineering
- Previous degree from a foreign university
- Minimum TOEFL score of 80 or minimum IELTS score of 6.5
(International applicants only)
*Students who do not meet the requirements for regular admission into the MS or PhD program may be admitted provisionally, depending on their overall application file and their GRE score. Provisional admissions are subject to approval of the MAE Graduate Affairs Committee. Remedial courses may be required as part of provisional admission.
Streamlined Application (UCCS graduates)
UCCS students who are about to graduate or have graduated in the past two years with a GPA of at least 3.25 have reduced admission requirements. Neither recommendation letters nor the GRE are required. Streamlined applications are accepted at any time.
Application Deadlines
- Fall admission: January 15 for full consideration of TA and RA positions
(Applications accepted until March 15) - Spring admission: August 15 for full consideration of TA and RA positions
(Applications accepted until October 15)

- Three letters of recommendation*
- Official transcripts from all previously attended institutions
