Biographical Information

Dr. Vladimir Balabanov has worked in the area of optimization and software development for more than 15 years. He has written more than 50 research papers on optimization methods, approximations, design theory, optimization applications, and software. Before joining Boeing Commercial Airplanes in June of 2008, for 11 years he worked for Vanderplaats Research and Development, Inc. as a research engineer and later as a Project/Product manager developing the commercial optimization software for general systems. Vladimir developed, implemented, and applied in industry optimization algorithms as well as Design of Experiments methods, response surface approximation methods, evolutionary and probabilistic optimization methods among others. Currently he works in Boeing Commercial Airplanes in Vehicle Level Analysis and Optimization group. His work is focused on developing and applying optimization techniques to improve composite structures performance. In the spare time Vladimir is actively involved in Toastmasters International, where he won several awards, including the ones at the District level. He enjoys public speaking, making presentations, and helping others to improve their presentation skills.
