Biographical Sketch

Dr. Kalita received his Bachelor of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur, India, his Master of Science degree from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, and a Master of Science and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. He teaches a variety of classes, having taught almost 20 different classes during his career at UCCS. Dr. Kalita is also an administrator for the National Science Foundation Grant for undergraduates in Computer Science, Mathematics and Engineering, and has been on the Program Committee for several conferences, including CINC-03, CINC-05, and SIGKDD-2005. Dr. Kalita is also the founder of the Bioinformatics and Biotechnology Symposium (BIOT). 

Research

Dr. Kalita's research interests are in artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, information retrieval, and natural language processing and machine learning. As of 2008, Dr. Kalita has advised 8 PhD students, 65 MS students, and 20 undergraduates in independent studies. He has served on almost a hundred graduate committees.

Recent Publications

Dr. Kalita has more than 50 referred publications in journals and conferences. He has also published one book, On Peal, Perl for Students and Professionals, and is working on several others.
