About the Program
The College of Engineering and Applied Science offers a Certificate in Software Engineering to qualified students. The program has two purposes: (1) to provide employees of local companies with an opportunity to enhance their software engineering skills and their chances for career advancement, and (2) to provide students currently enrolled in the Master of Science in Computer Science (MSCS) with more in-depth knowledge in software engineering to enhance employ ability and career advancement. These courses can count towards the MSEE degree, the Master of Science in Computer Science degree or the PhD in Engineering/Computer Science concentration degree.
Focus of Study
This certificate program provides specialized knowledge and experience in selected areas of software development and maintenance.

Program Coursework
The certificate requires 5 courses:
CS-5300 Advanced Software Engineering
CS-5310 Software Requirements
CS-5320 Software Design
CS-5340 Software Maintenance
CS-5350 Software Project Management
Some of these courses may have prerequisites, and any comparable course from another approved University will suffice. Also note that students must earn grades of B or better in all courses to be counted toward the certificate.

- Knowledge of a modern programming language, e.g., Pascal, Java, or C++
- CS 1450 Data Structures and Algorithms
- Math 2150 Discrete Mathematics
- CS 3300 Software Engineering
