Electrical and Computer Engineering Student Resources

Resources

About: Independent Study is available to both undergraduate and graduate students who work with a faculty member to design a program of study appropriate to their degree.

Undergraduate Independent Study:

Academic Option: Undergraduate students in the Electrical and Computer Engineering program may earn up to three credit hours for academic work done under the direction of an ECE faculty member. The faculty member will work with the student to design a structured program of study that includes distinct milestones and deliverables that will be submitted for grade evaluation.

Internship with Industry Option: Undergraduate students in the ECE program may earn up to three credit hours for relevant work performed with industry under employment as a student intern. For this option, the student must work under the advisement of a faculty member who is responsible for developing a structured program of work (in collaboration with the industry partner) that includes distinct milestones and deliverables that will be submitted for grade evaluation. Students cannot receive credit for internships completed in a previous semester. Internship credit must be arranged in advance, and internship program goals must be approved before the internship begins.

Graduate Independent Study:

Graduate students in the Electrical and Computer Engineering program may earn up to six credit hours for academic work done under the direction of an ECE faculty member. Graduate independent studies allow students to do creative, self-directed work in the field. The faculty member will work with the student to design a structured program of study that includes distinct milestones and deliverables that will be submitted for grade evaluation.
